A man I met this summer at the Hampton Court Foodies Festival is Steve Drake. If you read any of the UK restaurant press, you will see how much chatter there has been about Steve and his restaurant. Glowing report from every direction. Well done Steve.
Steve Drake is passionate about cooking. At his happiest in the kitchen of his restaurant, Drakes at the Clock House in Ripley, he produces innovative contemporary British food. His unique skill of flavour combining takes him where other chefs haven’t ventured. His creativity and craftsmanship have been recognised with a Michelin star since 2005.
Drake’s opened in 2004 and within just months Steve had won a Michelin star, three AA Rosettes and was named Newcomer of the Year by the Good Food Guide. His career has included stints in the kitchens of some of our foremost chefs, but it is since he has been in charge of his own kitchen that Steve’s cooking has really come into its own.
Serving contemporary British food, with diverse influences, using seasonal ingredients, Steve puts quality of ingredients and their provenance as paramount. He believes in sourcing and using only the freshest and finest ingredients and treating them with the respect and care they deserve. His menu is constantly evolving to make the best of changing seasonal produce. Some 95 per cent of the cheese served at Drakes is British. Drake’s was awarded Wine List of the Year in the 2013 Good Food Guide.
